The new kingdom had an extremely different way of living compared to the old kingdom, many things changed and we saw new techniques and ideas that would soon change the decade forever.
Ancient Egypt was a narrow strip of land along the Nile River. The river flooded its banks every year, this lead to it leaving behind a fertile soil they called "the Black Land," while the desert all around the Nile valley was called "the Red Land." It was here the Ancient Egyptians built their homes and soon to be empire. Family, marriage and food were major parts of the new kingdoms ways.
Everyday living
- Staple family diet of bread,wine, onions and beer. Also vegetables that were hand grown
- Women assisted in agricultural work and manual labor
- The people of the kingdom lived in crowded communities of mud-bricked houses, walked to the fields and hygiene/cleanliness was valued especially when bathing in the Nile
- Usually kept small numbers of animals to milk, wool, or meat
- Doctors practiced a mixture of medicine and magic to prepare for high incidence of disease, instructional literature of the time stressed having children and treating people properly
- Clothing was made from white linen sheets that were, and both men and women of the upper classes wore wigs, jewelry, and cosmetics. However children went without clothing until the age of 12
- Family was extremely important, as seen in the reliefs and male children were considered a blessing.
Leisure activities
- Tomb decorating
- Hunting, boating fishing, dances, music, board games, gymnastics and athletic games were known as popular leisure pursuits.
- Hunting the sport of kings, courtiers and dignitaries
- Playing flutes or harps
- Leisure activities usually took place in evenings after work, days off, or holidays and was probably spent in inns, beer houses and brothels
- Wealthier people of the time had servants to carry out everyday tasks, and therefore had more leisure time on their hands.

- Houses built of sun dried mud brick
- Small high set windows or light wells
- Flat roofs
- Basic furniture items included stools, chests, low tables and boxes
- Wealthier would have wood, ivory, bed cushions or couches as furnishing
King and family lived in luxurious palaces which usually included:

• Ornate furnishings
• Colorful wall and floor decoration
